The CRA at Home services allow homeschool teachers to use Cedar River Academy's proven research-based Student-Centered Education Model.
Cedar River Academy, a non-sectarian, co-education, college preparatory day school, provides exceptional education opportunities for pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students. Our Washington State certified teachers develop integrated thematic curricula that embodies State standards and assures student engagement and self-directed learning.
Building on the body of knowledge developed by brain researchers, Cedar River Academy defined the Student-Centered Education Model (SCEM). This model is distinctly different from the education model now used in the majority of schools in the United States. SCEM embodies the whole child, differentiated instruction, and active learning practices described and recommended by progressive educators.
The SCEM follows the well defined understanding of how the human brain develops, how we learn, and how different we are one-to-another. In this model, the adults are observers, mentors, coaches, and guides of individual students. Teachers develop curricula units that embody the standards and student expectations for multiple subjects. These units are designed to include projects and activities that allow students to explore the subject matter in multiple ways to leverage their multiple intelligences. Learning activities are designed to address individual student interests, and to engage the mind and body.
Individual student progress towards subject matter mastery is tracked along knowledge continuums, recognizing that students progress faster in some subjects than in others. Students are given the time they need to explore the subject matter and develop their knowledge.
Students make many excursions into the world that are designed to allow them to connect their work in school to content-rich real-world experiences.
Students take responsibility for their own learning. Teachers create environments that allow students to access materials independently and work collaboratively. SCEM is designed to prepare students for college while allowing students to develop their interests, knowledge, and skills. Independent studies support both skill development and student-driven learning.
Cedar River Academy at Home allows homeschool teachers to collaborate with professional educators and other homeschool teachers to promote promote professional practices. Cedar River Teacher Academy offers professional level training for CRA at Home teachers.
